(Titles and authors of accepted submissions are listed here), But there were so many rich ideas in proposals we did not accept - and we have heard from people who missed the submission deadline and want to present - so we decided to add a new Conversation Cafe. The purpose of the session is to share new thinking and research on Transformative Learning that would otherwise be overlooked, but opens up additional thinking about what Transformative Learning is and how it can be applied in different ways and contexts! With that in mind, we invite those who are NOT among the already accepted presenter- who are interested in joining the Conversation Cafe and the conference program - to submit a 500 word abstract by May 1 to pboverie@unm.edu. Include your name, affiliation, new ideas and research you would like to present, and how you see this as related to transformative learning. Patsy Boverie, who chaired the 7th International Transformative Learning Conference in 2007, will review abstracts for clarity and for likely contribution to productive conversations and generative exchange of ideas about transformative learning. Abstracts WILL BE INCLUDED in the Conference Proceedings. Those whose papers were already peer reviewed, but not accepted for the conference, will be AUTOMATICALLY REVIEWED for this new Conversation Cafe. PRESENTERS WHOSE ABSTRACTS ARE ACCEPTED FOR THE CONVERSATION CAFE WILL BE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS SO THAT THEY CAN REGISTER FOR THE CONFERENCE AT THE SUPERSAVER EARLY BIRD RATES (even thought the deadline for those rates has passed. Transformative Learning
When people learn in transformative ways, they recognize how their actions have been based unconsciously on beliefs, values, feelings and judgments assimilated from others. They often reframe their deepest understanding of how things work personally and professionally... and in the groups, communities, organizations and society in which they live and work. Transformative learning looks and feels very different in different cultures. This conference will explore differences through global voices in a truly multicultural setting — in light of social sustainability. Social Sustainability Social sustainability calls for rethinking and transforming basic ideas about life itself. Dr. Hina Pendle of iGreenbuild.com describes: "Many of us are looking for life-affirming ways of seeing, doing and being that don’t compromise the present or the future wellbeing of life on earth... Western civilization is indoctrinated with over 5000 years worth of conditioning to conquer and fight or flee and hide. All that conditioning is habitual, unconscious and unexamined. Our current model of leadership and support comes from this era. Conference Steering Committee
